Juergen Teller, Van Gogh, and all the art encounters we’re marking for this fall. Well-known Athenian museums, cultural foundations, as well as unconventional venues will host intriguing visual art projects in the months to come.
On September 25, the retrospective exhibition Loukas Samaras: Master of the Uncanny opens at Intermission Gallery in Piraeus. It marks the first solo presentation of Samaras’s work in his hometown after twenty years.
A new, dark, and existential interpretation of Dracula, based on Bram Stoker’s iconic novel, comes to Porta Theatre from October 24, adapted and directed by Thanos Papakonstantinou. Dracula, one of the most influential figures in world literature, reappears on stage not as a classic symbol of horror, but as a modern myth—a mirror of our era and its obsessions.
The play, based on the homonymous work by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, thrilled audiences who rushed to see it last year at the National Theatre. From October 8, it returns with two major cast changes: Aris Fragoulis takes on the title role, while Andreas Kontopoulos embodies Mephistopheles.
Immersed in the twilight of memory and literature, The Past (Le Passé) by Julien Gosselin resembles a polyphonic farewell ritual, a work that converses with the 20th century as if it were a ghost. From October 16 to 19, the Main Stage of the Onassis Stegi hosts a performance that deconstructs the idea of History as a static narrative and transforms it into a bodily experience—an impassioned confession on love, humanity, and decay.

In 2025, we mark 100 years since the birth of Mikis Theodorakis. To honor this milestone, the legendary vocalist Maria Farantouri—iconically associated with Theodorakis—joins forces with baritone Tassis Christoyannopoulos, one of Greece’s most distinguished lyrical performers, to present a repertoire that highlights the profound lyricism of Theodorakis’ multifaceted musical legacy.
Hosted at the Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus, the performance will feature excerpts from Odyssey (2006), his final song cycle set to poetry by Kostas Kartelias, as well as selections from Ta Lyrika (1976), with poetry by Tasos Leivaditis, and Beatrice on Zero Street (1994), with poetry by Dionysis Karatzas.
Seeds, the duo formed by Michalis and Christos Kalkanis, explore the boundaries where music meets storytelling and traditional song. Joining them is the evocative Michalis Valasoglou, who narrates stories in his own distinctive way, and Alcmini—one of the rising voices of traditional Greek music and a member of the female vocal ensemble Chóres—who brings timeless melodies into the present.
