The Greek National Opera presents Puccini’s masterpiece Turandot at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus. Nearly a century after its creation, Giacomo Puccini’s iconic opera opens this year’s Herodion programme with a new grand-scale production on June 1, 3, 5, 6, and 8. Conducted by Pier Giorgio Morandi and directed by Andrei Șerban, with sets and costumes by Chloé Obolensky, the production features a cast of international acclaim.
The first collaboration between internationally acclaimed Greek director and teacher Theodoros Terzopoulos and the National Theatre of Greece, the iconic Oresteia by Aeschylus — hailed as one of the most significant moments in the history of Greek theatre — returns in the summer of 2025. Continuing its triumphant journey, the production will travel on Friday, May 9, to Budapest and the National Theatre of Hungary (MITEM – Madách International Theatre Meeting), on May 31 and June 1 to China (Huichang Theatre Village), and will conclude its international tour on August 29 and 30 at the Art Carnuntum international theatre festival in Austria.
The Athens Epidaurus Festival celebrates its 70th anniversary this year and opens its curtain in grand fashion at the ancient theatre of Epidaurus with one of the most iconic works of ancient Greek literature, Sophocles’ “Antigone.” This global premiere is directed by acclaimed German creator Ulrich Rasche. The production, a co-production with the National Theatre of Greece, will be presented exclusively at Epidaurus for just three performances — June 27, 28, and 29 — featuring an exceptional cast of Greek actors.
